Stay off the ice

Local first responders are asking people to stay off the frozen lakes.

On Friday, a 10-year-old ventured onto the ice of Albert Lea Lake, according to the Albert Lea Police Department. The father called police and fire, but the child hobbled off the ice before the responders arrived.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recommends that ice be 4 inches thick before walking on it. It must be 8 to 12 inches thick for automobiles, which should be moved at most every two hours and never parked next to each other.
