Weekend Planner: Albert Lea set to ring in the new year

Many celebrations throughout the county will ring in the new year this Saturday evening. One event for the holiday is in Albert Lea at America’s Best Value Inn.

Jeff Polis presents a New Year’s Eve comedy show at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will have Bob Larson as the headliner and also feature Dean Johnson and Jeff Polis.

Tickets are $15 in advance from the front desk and $20 at the door. The hotel is also running a special $29 room rate with purchase of two dinners at Big Island Grille & Bar. A cash bar will be available at the comedy show.

Friday

• The Albert Lea Art Center hosts the annual Festival of Trees show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Art Center hosts the annual Festival of Trees show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

• The Union Center in Albert Lea will host bingo at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and early bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. People will play for the payout of $2,000, and only people over age 18 are allowed.

• Albert Lea’s Moose Lodge will hold a New Year’s Eve dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and Roger Murphy will play from 7 p.m. to closing time.

• Albert Lea’s Eagles club will hold a New Year’s Eve party. There will be a dinner menu and entertainment by Full House Band.

• Geneva Bar & Grill will host Prom Night on New Year’s Eve. Wear an old prom dress and come for specials, prizes and more. A disc jockey will be providing entertainment from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Free champagne and party favors will be offered at midnight.

• George’s in Geneva will hold dinner specials and have its full menu available. Call 507-256-4501 for reservations. Entertainment will begin at 9 p.m. by Al the disc jockey.

• A New Year’s Eve comedy show at America’s Best Value Inn will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

• Where It Matters on South Broadway Avenue in Albert Lea will host the Heart of Gold band from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. They will also have a free champagne toast at midnight.

 

Sunday

• Albert Lea’s Eagles club will hold a dance from 2 to 6 p.m. featuring the Larry Rysavy Band.

• Albert Lea’s Moose Lodge will have Roger Murphy performing at 1 p.m. and a turkey dinner will be available.
