Weekend Planner: Mannheim steamrolls Lighthouse Ctr.

Local artists will present the music of Mannheim Steamroller starting tonight and continuing Friday and Saturday evening.

The concerts, at the Lighthouse Event Center, will feature arrangements performed by Brock Besse, on recorder and keyboard, Merle Krause, drums, Holly Dalager, oboe and English horn, Lilah Aas, keyboard, Jamie Kyllo, bass guitar and Sue Radloff, violin.

“This will be a wonderful live musical event,” Celeste Krause, part owner of the event center, said.

The signature sound of Mannheim Steamroller uses creative arrangements to bring new life to classic carols like “Deck the Halls” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

The concerts will be held at the Lighthouse Event Center at 621 Marshall St. The concerts are at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $10 in advance, available at Marshall Street Music, First Lutheran Church, Hy-Vee and Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and Coffee House on Main in Austin, and are $12 at the door.

 

Friday

• Local artist Lu Callstrom will sign wine bottles featuring red geranium labels from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hy-Vee Liquor in Albert Lea.

• ACT presents “A Dickens Christmas Carol” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• First Baptist Church will hold a Nativity pageant at 7:30 p.m.

• Local artists perform the music of Mannheim Steamroller at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center. Tickets are $12 at the door.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northbridge Mall inside the old Schweser’s store location.

• The Full Draw Archery Club will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by 133 S. Newton Ave. in the Knutson building to learn more about the club. Members will be showing how they repair and prepare targets for upcoming hunting and target leagues.

• The Albert Lea Community Band will hold its holiday concert from 1 to 2 p.m. at the American Legion in Albert Lea.

• A Christmas party for Delta Company and VFW Post No. 447 members will be at the Armory in Albert Lea. The children’s party will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and the adults’ party will begin at 6 p.m.

• The Alden Legion will hold a steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion in Alden. Cost is $12.

Sunday

• The Masonic Lodge, at 147 N. Broadway Ave., will hold an Amarath pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Servers will be members of Albert Lea High School’s choir groups.
