Wolverines lose big, 72-24 in opener

The Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team fell flat in its season opener on Tuesday with an eye-widening 72-24 loss at Spring Grove.
The Wolverines trailed the No. 7-ranked Lions 38-12 at halftime and committed 28 turnovers against Spring Grove’s full-court pressure.
“Pressure broke the pipes,” Wolverines coach Dan Fredrickson said. “For the level we expect our program to be at, it was an unacceptable game tonight.”
What a difference a year can make.
The Wolverines won on the road against the Lions 64-47 last season in the program’s first win in Spring Grove in school history. The Wolverines went on to win its next 13 games.
Derek Olson led Glenville-Emmons with 11 points, followed by Trent Thoms with seven and Donta Wills with four.
The Wolverines play again at 7:15 p.m. on Friday at Houston.
