Harry Engebretson, 96, Kiester

Harry Engebretson, age 96, of Kiester, died Jan. 5, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. Memorial services will be held Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, with the Revs. Kent Otterman and Chris Fiske officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Winnebago County, Iowa. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the service. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Harry was born Dec. 16, 1915, to Carl C. and Ingaborg Emma (Dahle) Engebretson in Winnebago County, Iowa. He grew up in the Winnebago County area and farmed the family farm with his brother Willie for most of his life. Harry enjoyed gardening, maintaining several gardens and gardening for others; he loved raising strawberries and vine crops. He also enjoyed nature, going for walks and solitude.
Harry is survived by one sister, Carmen Engebretson of Santa Monica, Calif.; and two brothers, Selmer (June) Engebretson of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Carlyle (Janet) Engebretson of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews Darlene (Dick) Jordahl, of Albert Lea, Lorraine (Bill) Goette, of Albert Lea, Mavis (Eldar) Westergaard, of Oakland, Glorian (Jerry) Hamson, of Bricelyn, Diane Schisel (Bob Benson), of Forest City, Iowa, Clifford Engebretson, of Albert Lea, Lloyd (Linda) Engebretson, of Bricelyn, Connie (Jan) Engebretson, of Kiester, Larry (Nancy) Nelson, of Hartland, Alan Nelson, of Freeborn, Wayne (Linda) Nelson, of Freeborn, Sandi (Frank) Augenstein, of Aptos, Calif., Richard Engebretson, of San Gabriel, Calif., Scott (Julie) Engebretson, of White Bear Lake, and Lori (Dean) Wurgler, of Vermillion, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Chris, Morris, Willie and Laurence; and sisters Maureen and Gladys.
