St. Ted’s dinner feeds anyone

Loaves and Fishes, the community dinner at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, serves from 40 to 65 area people weekly. The dinners are served at 5 p.m. every Monday in Marion Hall. (The only exceptions are when a major holiday falls on Monday or if there is a snow day because of bad weather.) There are no questions asked, no screening, no charge except for a donation box available on the food table.

The dinners are funded in part by FEMA, the local food shelves and donations by individuals, businesses, area churches and manufacturers. Any food prepared in a licensed kitchen may be donated — for instance, catered food left over from a dinner, a party, a funeral or a wedding may be donated and served at Loaves and Fishes. If food comes in that won’t keep until the next dinner, it can be frozen and served later. If the food can’t be frozen and won’t keep until the following weeks dinner, it is taken to Salvation Army, where meals are served daily.

The coordinators plan the menu, get the necessary ingredients and have the recipes ready. Area churches send in teams of volunteers to cook, serve and clean up.

We are truly thankful to all of you that have supported us with your time, your donated food, your dollars and your prayers. Without you, this program would not survive.

If you or your group would like to volunteer in any way or to make a donation of food or money, contact Peg Shelton at 373-2319 or Bob and Elaine Sonka at 377-1808.
