The Lake Mills, Iowa, wrestling team’s deepest run into its regional tournament since 2003 ended on Tuesday with a 46-30 loss to Emmetsburg in the semifinals in West Hancock.

The Bulldogs won five matches in its first regional semifinals dual in nine years and finished the season with a 24-6 record.

“Coming in, I thought we would win five of 14 matches if we wrestled our lineup straight up,” Bulldogs coach coach Alex Brandenburg said. “We had an opportunity to win a couple more, but we just did not get the job done. We wrestled hard and I am very proud of our effort tonight and throughout the season.”

The loss marked the final dual for three Lake Mills seniors, including Cameron Peterson, Josh Perez and Trevor Larson.

Brandenburg said the seniors worked hard and were a big part of the team’s success.

“We will miss our seniors,” Bradenburg said. “But we will also be looking forward to next year with 23 kids returning.”
