The residential neighborhood along Main Street east of Garfield Avenue is set to get new streets this summer.
The Albert Lea City Council on Monday set a hearing for the bituminous overlay of 13 streets in the east central section of the city.
The hearing is set for 7 p.m. March 26. The streets are:
• Eberhart Street: Garfield Avenue to St. Peter Avenue.
• St. Thomas Avenue: East Main Street to Eberhart Street.
• St. Peter Avenue: Southeast Marshall Street to Eberhart Street.
• David Avenue: Southeast Marshall Street to Eberhart Street.
• Morningside Road: East Main Street to Neale Street.
• Bimelich Lane: Morningside Road to Morningside Road.
• Fenton Avenue: East Main Street to the south end.
• Eberhart Street: David Avenue to Charlotte Avenue.
• Columbus Avenue: East Main Street to the south end.
• Ulstad Avenue: East Main Street to Southeast Marshall Street.
• Charlotte Avenue: Southeast Marshall Street to the south end.
• Bimelich Lane: East end to Morningside Road.
• Neale Street: Morningside Road to the east end.
The city plans to replace Prospect Avenue from East Main Street to Stevens Road and replacing the bituminous parking lots at Sondergaard Park and at the lower portion of Edgewater Park near the fishing pier. The proposal calls for cutting the size of the Edgewater Park lot in half.
The City Council on Monday set a hearing of 7 p.m. March 26 for the bituminous overlay of several state-aid streets, along with some new sections of curb and gutter. The streets are:
• Clark Street, from Minnesota Highway 13 to First Avenue.
• Prospect Avenue from East Main Street to Southeast Marshall Street.
• Southeast Marshall Street from Morningside Road to Prospect Avenue.
These same two streets are slated to get sidewalks. The city is seeking to have sidewalks along all state-aid streets:
• Clark Street on the south side, from Highway 13 to South Sixth Avenue, where the existing sidewalk ends.
• Prospect Avenue on the east side, from Consul Street to East Main Street.
Southeast Marshall Street is set to be reconstructed from St. Peter Avenue to Morningside Road, along with the short section of St. Peter Avenue from East Main Street to Southeast Marshall Street. This is not a state-aid road, but the long, straight road is not part of the neighborhood project. The street also is set to get a new watermain from East Main Street to Charlotte Avenue.
Neighborhood meetings are set for March 7 and 8 on some of the projects. Residents can check with City Hall for locations and times.
