NEW RICHLAND — Following a head turning performance at the Minnesota Girls’ State Basketball Tournament last weekend, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva’s Carlie Wagner is no longer one of the state’s best kept secrets.

The sophomore was named on Tuesday to the Associated Press All-State girls’ basketball First Team as voted on by statewide media. She averaged 29.9 points per game this season and 37.3 over the state tournament’s three games, while scoring a single-game record 48 in a win over Pequot Lakes for third place.

She also scored a state tournament record 112 points over three games.

Wagner is the youngest of five girls named to the First Team, which also includes Player of the Year Marissa Janning of Watertown-Mayer, Rebekah Dahlman of Braham, Jackie Johnson of Eden Prairie and Nia Coffey of Hopkins.

Wagner had a breakthrough season this year and led the Panthers to a perfect regular season and 32-1 record. She scored 956 points on the season, the third-most in state history. She also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 4.2 steals per game, while shooting 55 percent from the field. She has 1,700 points on her career, already the most in school history (boys or girls).

Wagner was named to the Class 2A State Tournament Team this winter and Gopher All-Conference. She was an All-State honorable mention last season after averaging 20.4 points as a ninth-grader.

 

USC’s Allis receives honorable mention nod

United South Central junior Amanda Allis was named an All-State honorable mention.

Allis led the Rebels to a 19-8 record and averaged 11.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.1 blocks this season for the. She recorded 165 blocks on the season, the 10th most in state history, and recorded the first two triple-doubles in school history. Allis is the Rebels’ career leader in blocks with 218.

She shot 55 percent while being named Gopher All-Conference.
