GLENVILLE — Power went out at 7:34 p.m. in Glenville tonight when a fire started on top of a pole at the intersection of County Road 13 and County Road 26. An Alliant Energy spokesman said 370 customers were without power.
Crews were able to restore power at 9:15 p.m., several hours sooner than they initially thought. A spokesman for the company said that in some cases, a fire causes extensive damage and a new pole must be installed. In the case of Monday’s fire, only a crossarm had to be replaced and the existing pole was used.
The spokesman said they may never know the cause of the fire, but speculate that weather conditions played a factor.
Alliant was notified when customers called to say there was an outage. The spokesman said that is important customers continue to do so because it is easier for the company to troubleshoot if they already know where the problem is.
Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and as storm season begins Alliant Energy wants to remind people to stay away from downed power lines as they can still be energized and call 1-800-Alliant with any problems.
The Jose Cole Circus was performing at Glenville-Emmons High School when the power went out. The show, which started at 6:30 was cancelled, but not until after the magician’s assistant escaped from a box with swords stabbed into it, unharmed.
Due to the circus having a full line-up, it will not be rescheduled.
