Weekend Planner: ‘Hooked on Classics’ coming to church

The Southern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra will present its “Hooked on Classics” show Sunday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Starting at 7 p.m., it will feature the trained classical voices of Paul and Kristin Johnson, along with several local high school students who will have the opportunity to sing a solo with the orchestra.

Tickets are available at First Lutheran Church, Marshall Street Music and the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau and are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $10 at the door and free for students.

Friday

• A home-based business show will be at Northbridge Mall throughout the day during mall hours.

• The 31st annual KATE Radio Home and Recreation show will start from 4 to 8 p.m., and the show continues Saturday and Sunday. There will be more than 40 exhibitors, activities for families, free parking and admission and more.

• The Albert Lea American Legion will host a basket night fundraiser to support Glenville’s First Lutheran Church youth from 5 to 8 p.m. Proceeds go toward the youth who are attending the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans in July. Cost is $8 and choices are hamburger, chicken strips or pulled pork with fries.

• Tigers Roar will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium.

• “My Antonia” Illusion Theatre will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre in Austin. Cost is $10 in advance, $12 at the door and $5 for students.

 

Saturday

• The home-based business show continues at the Northbridge Mall during mall hours.

• Central Lutheran Freeborn Church will host a women’s wellness retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $6.

• Tigers Roar will start at 7 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium.

 

Sunday

• The Masonic Lodge in Albert Lea will host an Amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge, above the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Students from the ALHS music departments will wait tables.

• The home-based business show continues at the Northbridge Mall during mall hours.

• The 31st annual KATE Radio Home and Recreation show will continue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be more than 40 exhibitors, activities for families, free parking and admission and more.

• Author Doug Ohman will present on school house memories at 2 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
