Albert Lea will not see any redistricting of its ward boundaries after a vote by the Albert Lea City Council Monday.

The council voted to re-establish the ward precincts and polling places that have been in place since the early 1990s.

The ward populations follow state guidelines of being within 10 percent of the average population of all the wards within the city.

According to numbers provided by Freeborn County Auditor-Treasurer Dennis Distad, there are 18,016 residents in the city with an average of 3,033 people per ward.

Specifically, populations by city wards are the following:

• Ward 2: 2,947

• Ward 3: 3,070

• Ward 4: 3,088

All ward polling places will remain the same as in previous years, except for Ward 1, which will be moved only during the upcoming primary election from the Brookside Education Center to the Fairlane Building because of remodeling at Brookside. This change is only for the upcoming election.

Other polling places will remain the same:

• Ward 2: First Baptist Church

• Ward 3: United Methodist Church

• Ward 4: Grace Lutheran Church

• Ward 5: City Hall

• Ward 6: Halverson Elementary School.
