MASON CITY, Iowa — An Albert Lea woman who made a plea deal in an Iowa counterfeiting case has been given probation and a suspended sentence.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reported that 29-year-old Meranda O’Connor, of Albert Lea, had pleaded guilty to one count of forgery. Prosecutors dropped three charges in exchange for her plea.
O’Connor was sentenced to five years in prison, which was suspended, and two years of probation. A $750 fine also was suspended.
Authorities said O’Connor bleached the ink off $5 bills and then printed over the bills with larger denominations. The counterfeits reportedly circulated at several Mason City businesses.
