Shirley Wiles, 91, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Shirley M. Wiles, 91, of Albert Lea, formerly of Stewartville, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville with the Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Wiles died Saturday, April 21, 2012, of natural causes at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea.

Shirely Marie McMoran was born March 28, 1921, in Chatfield to Otis and Ruby (Sisson) McMoran. She moved with her family as a child to Stewartville where she attended school, graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1939. She attended Winona Teacher’s College and after receiving her teaching certificate taught school in rural Racine for a few years. Shirley was married on Dec. 19, 1944, at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville to Kenyon W. Wiles. Following their marriage the couple lived in Stewartville where they raised their family and made their home for many years. Mrs. Wiles was a home-maker and Mr. Wiles was a longtime IBM emplyee in Rochester. They moved to Racine and then Grand Meadow after they retired. Mr. Wiles died on March 18, 1976. Shirley was a longtime member at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and was active in its Ladies Aid circles and sang in the choir. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Stewartville. Shirley had a beautiful singing voice and sang solos at many weddings and funeral services through the years. She enjoyed going up north to the cabin and time spent with her family.

Surviors include her daughter Patricia (Herbert) Houg of Albert Lea; son Richard (Sandy) Wiles of New Richland; seven grandchildren: Alisha (Andy) Hackerson, Derek Wiles, David Stevenson, Heidi (Mike) Torgerson, Daniel Houg, Andrew (Rebecca) Houg and Kristopher Houg; seven great-grandchildren: Evan, Brynn, Jessica, Jacob, Jadie, Gavin and Collin.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenyon; her parents; daughter Sharon Stevenson; and granddaughter Amy Houg.

Friends may call from one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday afternoon.
