‘Who are you to question us?’

I am writing in response to Kathy Diaz’s letter to the editor dated May 6. I sympathize with her on her long quest for answers to issues that deserve better answers.

I also have asked for answers and actions on issues involving the mayor that are inappropriate (the use of city employee and taxpayer dollars being used and spent on private properties without council or voter approval. I have documents requested and received from City Hall to prove my statements).

I, too, have gone to the same people Kathy Diaz has contacted, with the same results. Outright lies or being told that the misuse of taxpayer dollars is not a priority for them to look into it. If that is not a priority in today’s economy, what is?

Most of us do not have enough time to oversee the people we elect to represent us and that is what they count on, that we will give up and go away, and they won’t have to explain their actions.

If you go to City Hall and question city officials, you are usually treated like, who are you to question us?

I will tell you who we are. We are the taxpayers of this community who pay your wages and end up paying for the consultants and unnecessary projects you subject us to and most of us will never benefit from.

For all the above reasons and more, that is why in November you should vote against a four-year term for mayor. Let him or her get re-elected on their record. It has worked all these years, why change it now? Remember once you have a bad individual in office, you will be stuck with them for four years, with no easy recourse.
