The Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ tennis coach, Wayne Prudoehl, has been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation.
Prudoehl told the Tribune the suspension comes as the result of an incident that happened on Friday after a student threw garbage out a bus window on the way home from a boys’ tennis match in Blue Earth.
Superintendent Mike Funk confirmed Prudoehl is not a teacher with the Albert Lea School District and is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
Prudoehl said he addressed the team on Monday about what had happened along with “a few other annoyances.”
“I used a fair amount of profanity to put some fear in them, to let them know how serious I was that this behavior will not continue,” Prudoehl said.
Prudoehl said a parent who witnessed Prudoehl’s behavior reported him to Albert Lea School District Activities Director John Double.
“I do not regret at all what I did,” Prudoehl said in a statement to the Tribune. “These players need to understand that inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. If I have to use profanity to get that point across, then that’s what I will do.”
Prudoehl said that assistant coach, Ken Fiscus, will take over for the time being.
