Field medals in golf

In a triangular at Wedgewood Cove on Tuesday, Albert Lea senior Morgan Field earned the medalist title by shooting a 92.
“It was really fun to see her get the medalist honor before she graduated,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said. “It was somewhat unexpected as she’s been dealing with a knee injury.”
Field has been golfing for the Tigers since she was in the seventh grade.
“It was awesome,” Field said. “It was the best round of my life. It was pretty cool to be able to do that at our home course.”
As a team, Albert Lea placed first with a score of 391. Mankato East took second with 415 and was followed by Faribault with 495.
Riebe said playing at Wedgewood was to the Tigers’ advantage because the course has a lot of water and bunkers that other coaches and players aren’t used to because the course is so new.
Even though the girls shot 10 strokes better than their meet on Monday and they are 6-0 in the conference, Riebe said they’re not happy.
“They know they have more in them and the scores aren’t where they used to be,” Riebe said. “That might set up a good year for us.”
Riebe said the girls should relax and try to have fun because the game of golf is punishing in the way that one hole can be really good and the next really bad.
Field agrees with Riebe and thinks the Tigers are on track for a good year.
“The Big Nine is pretty competitive with a few teams, but if we get our stuff together and peak at the right moment, we have a really good chance at the conference title,” Field said.
