John Richard Morley, 62, of Minneapolis, formerly of Albert Lea, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the veteran’s hospital in Minneapolis surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave in Richfield. Visitation is one hour prior to service. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery and luncheon to follow.
John was born Aug. 18, 1949, to George and Lorraine Morley in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Albert Lea High School. In 1970 he was drafted to the US Army. He received an honorable discharge in December 1971 to attend college. He graduated from St. Cloud State University and later earned a teaching degree from Mankato State University. He taught and coached for the Fairbault Public School and Randolph Public Schools. He enjoyed coaching, basketball, softball and volleyball. He loved spending time with his family and his daughter, Jill.
John survived by his father, George (Carmen) Morley of Albert Lea; daughter Jill Morley of River Falls, Wis.; brother, Daniel Morley of Le Sueur; sister Chris (Clif) Jones of Milwaukee, Wis.; and three nephews: Daniel, Joshua and Benjamin (fiancée Chelsea) Jones.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Morley.
