50 years ago – 1962
• In a high scoring church league softball game Trinity defeated Mansfield 19-14. Hitting home runs for Trinity were Ken Peterson, Dennis Jensen, Rog Anderson, Bill Malepsy and Gene Petersen.
• The Wells High School baseball team behind the shut out pitching of Ron Meyer defeated Kiester 9-0. Jim Kelly homered and had three RBIs for Wells.
• In a city softball league game Smith- Douglas defeated Streaters 10-5. Ken Sibilrud hit two home runs for Smith-Douglas.
25 years ago – 1987
• Named to the All-Big Nine Conference Boys Golf Team was Brian Knudsen from ALHS. Receiving Honorable Mention was Chad Adams of the Tigers.
• In the opening round of District 2A girls’ softball Alden-Conger defeated Ellendale-New Richland 3-2 and Glenville defeated Blooming Prairie 10-0. Tracie Whalen had two RBIs and Debbie Coughlin one for A-C in their eight-inning win. Briget Matter pitched the shut out for Glenville. Marnie McGuire had three hits for the Trojans.
• Southland defeated Glenville 10-8 in an 18-inning game and won the District 2A title and advanced to Region 1A.
• In District 2A boys’ baseball Emmons defeated Freeborn 6-5. Brian Yost hit two home runs for Emmons.
10 years ago – 2002
• Steph Lackey threw a three-hit shut out for Alden-Conger in their 2-0 victory over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva in a Gopher Conference softball game.
• In an opening game of sub-section baseball Glenville-Emmons defeated Lyle/Austin Pacelli 3-2. Pitcher Mitch Meier had 11 strike outs for the Wolverines and Paul Kleven and Paul Flatness had two hits each.
• In Section 1AAA girls softball Albert Lea High School lost their opening game in the double elimination tournament to Lakeville 4-3. In their second game they defeated Winona 12-11 with Therese Paczkowski picking up the win. The Tigers were eliminated by Rochester Century 9-3 in their third game. Nicole Rafdal took the loss.
