MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Big Ten has chosen Minnesota’s Target Field for next year’s conference baseball tournament.
The announcement was made Friday. This will be the first time the event will be held at a Major League Baseball facility. The home of the Minnesota Twins opened in 2010, and the Gophers have played a handful of games at the open-air ballpark since then.
The Big Ten also picked TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., for the site of the 2014 conference tournament. That’s the home of the College World Series.
Minnesota’s nine tournament titles are the most in the event’s 31-year history.
The Gophers hosted the tournament six times previously at their old on-campus facility, Siebert Field. The tournament will be played for the fourth straight year in Columbus, Ohio, next weekend.
