Weekend Planner: Annual book sale at library starts today

The annual Spring Book Sale put on by the Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library begins today and continues Friday and Saturday. The sale is located in the City Hall garage, just west of the library’s north entrance off Fountain Street.
Only members are able to come to tonight’s sale from 4 to 7 p.m. Anyone can become a member for $5. Friday’s sale runs from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday’s sale is from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a bag sale Saturday.
Donations of books are accepted Monday through Friday at the library and can be dropped off in the blue book bin on the first floor.
Friday
• Our Savior’s Lutheran Church hosts a salad luncheon with sloppy joes and bars from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6.50, and there will also be a quilt raffle.
• Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library book sale is from noon to 6 p.m.
• Circus Spectacular comes to town at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea City Arena.
• A breast cancer fundraiser will be at the Moose Lodge in Albert Lea. A meal will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door. There will be a live pie auction.
• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “How to Talk Minnesotan” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students.
Saturday
• The 40th annual Freeborn County Bike-A-Thon starts at 6 a.m. at the Sibley Elementary School warming house. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
• Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library book sale is from 9 a.m. to noon.
• The Naeve Alumni and Nurses Club annual luncheon will be at the Albert Lea American Legion. Social time starts at 11 a.m. with a lunch at noon. There will also be a dedication at 2:30 p.m. at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
• Just for Kix performs a spring show at 2 and 4:30 p.m. in the gym at Albert Lea High School.
• The Fight Like a Girl benefit for Heather Larsen starts at the Eagles Club in Albert Lea with live and silent auctions starting at 9 a.m. The event continues with a dance and beer bash featuring Bad Monkey at the Aragon Bar at 7 p.m.
• A cancer benefit for Becky Adams will be at the American Legion in Albert Lea from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be games, raffles, prizes, a bake sale and cake walk. Dinner is from 5 to 8 p.m., and Megaforce DJ will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Sunday
• Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa, hosts a coin and stamp show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and appraisals are free, and vendors from several states will attend.
