LAKE MILLS, Iowa — The game started in the eighth inning on Thursday as Lake Mills and Belmond-Klemme finished a game from June 15 that was rained out.
The score was tied 4-4 and the Bulldogs were first to bat.
Lake Mills scored 10 runs in the top of the inning to beat the Broncos 14-4.
“Softball is definitely a sport where the game can go either way on any given night,” Bulldogs coach Sabrina Roll said.
The first win over the Broncos guaranteed the Lake Mills girls a conference title.
The Bulldogs carried their energy over to the game that was scheduled for Thursday and beat the Broncos 11-1.
“Getting the 14-4 win right before was great momentum into this game,” Roll said.
The Bulldogs were able to jump out to an 8-1 lead going into the third inning. The game only lasted through the fifth as the Bulldogs put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.
In the full second game, the Broncos pitcher didn’t strike out any batters while Bulldogs’ Josie Brackey struck out eight.
After Thursday’s games, Lake Mills is 21-8 overall and 12-1 in the North Iowa Conference.
The Bulldogs travel to Newman Catholic today for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
