Austin police arrested a man driving around with a shotgun around 6 p.m. Saturday at Marcusen Park after a 12-minute standoff.

The man was arrested on terroristic threats and fleeing from police in a motor vehicle.

Police received a 911 call from someone who said there was a man with a shotgun, but the line went dead, according to Lt. Rene Phan. Phan said police searched the area where the call came from and couldn’t locate anyone initially.

Another call came in soon after from a woman reporting an altercation with a man at a home in the southwest part of Austin. The man left the scene with a shotgun in his vehicle.

Police located the man and attempted to stop the vehicle. The man didn’t stop, leading police on a short pursuit until he ended up in a corner of Marcusen Park. Austin Police, Mower County deputies and Minnesota State Patrol arrived on scene in a short standoff before police calmed the man down enough to turn himself in.

The man was taken to jail and the case will be forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
