AUSTIN — The Austin branch of Cedar Valley Services is expanding.
Job training and rehabilitation will expand into the old Home Design Studios building on the corner of Oakland Avenue West and First Avenue Northwest.
“It was a nice little office building for some people, but this is a good use of the space,” said Rich Pavek, division director for Cedar Valley Services in Austin and Albert Lea.
Pavek said the space, which was empty for the past two years, was perfect for the Top Flight program, which helps disabled residents learn valuable job skills, interact with the community, perform jobs and services for area businesses, and get recreational time.
Cedar Valley Services operates on a limited license to help 18 residents, and expansion will enable the nonprofit to help up to 30 residents once finished.
“There’s a need for additional services,” Pavek said.
Construction started last Monday and is expected to wrap up within three months.
