Pappas called to HOF

Mike Pappas graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1971.
On Saturday he will join seven other inductees in the Albert Lea High School Hall of Fame.
Pappas was a three-sport athlete playing football, running track and wrestling.
In his senior year, Pappas set the school rushing record in football and set the record for the most points scored.
He captained the football team and led them to a state championship.
Because of his talent, Pappas was named to the All-Conference Big Nine Conference Team and First Team All-State in football.
In addition to his championship in football, Pappas made state trips in wrestling and track and field.
He wrestled at 154 pounds on a team that won a state championship and competed in sprints and relay races at state track and field.
After high school Pappas went to Utah State University where he captained the freshman football squad.
To finish his football career Pappas transferred to Mankato State University.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club at 6:30 p.m.
Prior to the induction there will be a four-person best shot golf tournament at 10:30 a.m. and a silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The guest speaker of the evening will be Eric Nyquist, a 1990 graduate of ALHS.
All proceeds from the Hall of Fame are donated to ALHS to reduce participation fees for high school athletes.
