MINNEAPOLIS — Tony Hernandez has won the Republican primary to challenge Rep. Betty McCollum for Minnesota’s St. Paul-area congressional seat.
Hernandez is a former St. Paul businessman. He beat Ron Seiford, a financial advisor and adjunct college teacher, who challenged him despite losing the party’s endorsement to Hernandez this spring.
In November, Hernandez will take on Democrat McCollum, who was first elected in 2000. The 4th District, which includes St. Paul and runs east to the Wisconsin border, has been reliably Democratic.
