3 injured in crash on Main

Three people were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea Tuesday evening after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Main Street and Garfield Avenue.

According to police, 21-year-old Alisha Marie Franek, of Faribault, was driving westbound on Main Street in a 2012 Ford Focus when she reportedly ran a red light and struck a 2008 Honda CRV, driven by Lance Skov, 41, of Albert Lea, that was traveling north on Garfield Avenue.

Skov’s vehicle in turn struck a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, driven by Jean Pestorious, 73, Albert Lea, that was driving south on Garfield Avenue.

Pestorious and her two passengers, Ann Marie Schumann, 48, and Kennedy Ann Bencke, 2, were transported to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Police stated Franek was cited for a semaphore violation. She reportedly told police there was sunlight in her eyes, but she thought she had a green light.

 

Basketball courts vandalized

Vandalism was reported to the basketball courts across from Frank Hall Park near the city pool at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

 

Knights Inn sale still slated

The owners of the Knights Inn in Albert Lea have through 5 p.m. today to pay more than $220,000 in back property taxes before their hotel may be auctioned at a tax forfeiture sale.

As of Tuesday, Freeborn County Auditor-Treasurer Dennis Distad said the owners have not paid the back taxes.

The sale is slated for 10 a.m. Thursday.

The hotel is at 2301 E. Main St.
