NORTHWOOD — The county seat of Worth County again is welcoming veterans to a picnic in the park.

Chapter 790 President Jerry Parmley of Vietnam Veterans of America is inviting all veterans, of all eras, to the ninth annual All Veterans BBQ Picnic at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at Swensrud Park.

He has seen this event grow larger every year as word of the social event has spread among veterans over the past years.

“Bringing veterans of all branches of service from all eras together is what this event is all about,” Parmley said. “We encourage each veteran to bring new veterans along to enjoy the commander among all the age groups. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon.”

The menu includes burgers, bratwurst, sloppy joes, sweet corn, potato salad and ice-cold lemonade.

“We always make room for a tremendous variety of side dishes, salads or desserts that most folks bring to share, especially the desserts,” Parmley said.
