Weekend Planner: Community Sew Day is Saturday

Crafters and sewing professionals get your gear ready for Community Sew Day on Saturday.

The event is part of Shinefest and will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center in Skyline Plaza. Participants can come for the whole day or just a few hours.

Items to bring include sewing machines, scissors, pins and a sack lunch. Sewing kits for various projects like quilts, dresses and baby bibs will be provided. Fleece blanket kits will be available. Beverages will be provided for participants. Call 507-383-8977 for more information.

 

Friday

• The Freeborn County Relay for Life starts at 6 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

• “Sweet Home Alabama” will play at 8:30 p.m. for the Movie in the Park event at Edgewater Park’s bandshell in Albert Lea.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea City Golf Championship starts at 8 a.m. at Green Lea Golf Course and Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. There’s a $55 entry fee.

• Shinefest’s Community Sew Day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center at Skyline Plaza.

• The Sample Saturday Series features free instruction of kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brookside Boathouse.

• The Freeborn County Humane Society will host a pet fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 101 James Ave., near Frank Hall Park. There will be informational speakers, free samples and coupons, a raffle and activities for children. A ribbon cutting for the shelter’s addition will be at 11 a.m.

• Where It Matters bar in Albert Lea hosts musical guest Blu Simon at 9 p.m.

 

Sunday

• The Albert Lea City Golf Championship continues at 8 a.m. at Green Lea Golf Course and Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.

• Northbridge Mall hosts live music by Three Wheels & a Flat starting at 1 p.m. There is no admission fee.
