Darlene Grace Johnson, 82, of rural Lyle, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Hwy 65 S., Northwood, and will be one hour prior to service at the church.
Darlene was born on Sept. 13, 1929, in Osage, Iowa, to Dennis and Gertrude (Merkel) Schultheis. She graduated from Austin High School in Austin in 1947. She worked at Hormel in Austin in the payroll department for a total of 33 years.
Darlene married DeVerne Johnson on Sept. 28, 1952, in Austin.
Darlene enjoyed quilting, dancing, gardening, traveling and bus trips, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed the Christmas season and the family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Amelia Grace Young; a brother, Dean Schultheis.
Darlene is survived by her husband, DeVerne of Lyle; three daughters, DeAnn (Roger) Scheffel of Lyle, Denise (Mark) Young of Knoxville, Iowa, Dawn Fenton of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Schultheis of Albert Lea.
