Minn. routs Michigan State 5-1

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Second-ranked Minnesota scored three times in the first period and coasted to a 5-1 men’s college hockey win over Michigan State on Friday.
Ben Marshall, Nick Bjugstad and Christian Isackson had a goal each in the first 14 minutes of the Gophers’ (1-0-0) season opener.
Erik Haula and Travis Boyd added goals for Minnesota, which got 25 saves by goalie Michael Shibrowski.
Shibrowski lost his shutout bid on a goal by the Spartans’ (0-1-0) Tanner Sorenson at 15:59 of the third.
Michigan State goalie Will Yanakeff had 37 saves.
