Two Albert Lea athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday to attend colleges on athletic scholarships.
Megan Pulley, a senior golfer at Albert Lea High School, signed her letter of intent to Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. and Karli Kriewall, a senior diver on the ALHS swimming and diving team, signed to Boise State University out of Boise, Idaho.
Pulley has been on the Tigers’ varsity golf team since the seventh grade and decided on her school after receiving a letter from the assistant golf coach.
“This is just incredible,” Pulley said. “I’ve dreamed about it since I was 8.”
Shawn Riebe, the Tigers’ head coach, said it will be a sad day to see her leave especially because she’ll be too far away to go to a meet, but is excited to have one more season with her in the spring.
After Pulley signed her letter, Kriewall was introduced by diving coach Jill Johnson and signed her letter.
Kriewall has been a varsity diver for the Tigers since she was in the eighth grade. She enters the Minnesota State High School League state tournament today for the third time in her career.
Last year she placed third and in her sophomore year she placed fifth.
“We look forward to great things over the next few days,” Johnson said.
Kriewall said she had been to a diving camp in Indiana where she was first introduced to Boise State University. After not hearing anything back, she returned to the camp one more time to see if she could spark an interest.
She found out the coach she had originally talked to was no longer with the school and made contact with the new coach.
Both girls said after their first visit to their schools, they knew it was right where they wanted to go. Kriewall said she even canceled a trip that was scheduled the week after she was in Idaho because she knew it was the right place to go.
