A 15-year-old girl has been charged with second-degree assault in connection to the alleged stabbing of a 17-year-old boy last week.
The girl, whose name has not been released, is being held in a secure juvenile facility in Dakota County, said Assistant Freeborn County Attorney Erin O’Brien. She appeared in a closed juvenile hearing in Freeborn County District Court last week to face her charge.
The girl reportedly stabbed the boy three times with a small knife the morning of Nov. 7 — twice on the thigh and once on the back, according to police.
The boy was treated and released for his injuries from Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
Police stated the stabbing reportedly took place at 715 Alcove Street, one block south of Front Street near Lincoln Avenue. Police were alerted to the stabbing after the teenager was reportedly brought into the emergency room at the Albert Lea hospital.
It is still unclear how the two teenagers were related, what led to the alleged stabbing and what kind of small knife was used.
