The United South Central wrestling team took fourth place at the Blue Earth Area Invitational on Saturday after entering seven wrestlers.
“It’s another bright spot for USC and our future varsity,” Rebels head coach Marcus Eytcheson said. “Those boys wrestled hard and came up with 15 falls.”
Eytcheson called Adam Knutson the “varsity story of the day.” Knutson went into the tournament unseeded and drew the third seed first round. He lost his first match and battled back to a third-place finish.
Domonic Alger and Colten Carlson both won their matches by decisions in the finals and Eytcheson said it was because of solid positioning and a low risk offense.
Jacob Gonsalez, Dylan Herman, Derek Herman and Seth Olson either lost in the finals or didn’t make it to the finals.
“They maybe didn’t perform as we would have liked, but now there are things on film we can work with,” Eytcheson said. “It’s the first matches of the year so I feel like everything lost now just helps with practice planning.”
