Albert Lea High School is ready to celebrate winter in style.
Winterfest is this week at the high school, and students will again be dressing up each day in different garb.
Tuesday was the day to wear tie-dye, today was the day to dress like a nerd, Thursday will be a day for students to support their local thrift shop and Friday students will dress in college apparel. The student council organizes events under its adviser, teacher Brittany Van Reese.
“A lot of teachers and coaches have been commenting how positive everything has been,” Van Reese said.
A pep fest Tuesday was especially full of participation, and Van Reese said everyone encouraged student participation at the event.
Upcoming events include the field day on Friday. Albert Lea High School will have a half day, with an optional field day for students. The pool area will be open, the local National Guard recruiter Amber Steele will be bringing activities, and there will be a dodgeball tournament that afternoon.
Van Reese said there will also be two Winterfest dances for high school students. A dance for eighth- and ninth-graders will be Friday night at Brookside Education Center. Tenth- through 12th-grade students will have a dance at the high school on Friday night.
Sporting events at home for students and the public to support are as follows:
• 7 p.m. Thursday, girls’ hockey plays Owatonna at Albert Lea City Arena
• 7:30 p.m. Thursday, girls’ basketball plays Rochester John Marshall at Albert Lea High School
• 7 p.m. Saturday, wrestling against Owatonna at Albert Lea High School
