Some Senior DFL Caucus leaders are set to come to Albert Lea this Saturday for a forum on health care.
The gathering focuses on the proposed Minnesota Health Plan. It is slated to start at 10 a.m. at Prairie Wind Coffee, 211 S. Broadway Ave.
Joel Clemmer of the Senior DFL Caucus and the Minnesota Health Plan political action committee is the speaker. There is no cost.
The organizer of the forum is Sharon Schmidt of Tracy, who worked for 22 years for the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration. Schmidt said she feels it is important to bring rural areas into the health care conversation.
“There are pockets in Minnesota that still do not know about the Minnesota Health Plan and that is a one-payer bill co-written by Sen. John Marty,” she said in a news release. “In 2017, the states will be able to ask Congress for an exemption from the Affordable Care Act as long as those states have a plan that does better than the ACA. If passed, the Minnesota Health Plan will cover everyone and will cost the state less.”
At 11:15 a.m., people interested in forming an Albert Lea Senior DFL Caucus chapter will be invited to stay for a presentation by Earl Bower and Dwayne King, who represent the state Senior DFL Caucus.
