Award-winning band slated to perform Saturday in A.L.

The Mary Jane Alm band will perform at the Lighthouse Event Center this Saturday.

Alm has won multiple music awards in Minnesota and has toured around the U.S. and internationally in her career. The band plays a mix of originals as well as other arrangements and songs by contemporary writers

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and are available at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee, Nelson’s Market Place and Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and at the Coffee House on Main in Austin. Tickets are $25 at the door.

 Friday

• A salad luncheon, including sloppy joes and bars, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Cost is $6.50. There will also be a quilt raffle.

• The Friends of the Library book sale will be from noon to 6 p.m. at the public library.

• ACT presents “Church Basement Ladies” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students.

 Saturday

• The 100-mile Freeborn County Bike-A-Thon begins at 6 a.m. at the Sibley Elementary School warming house. All riders must raise $35 or pay that amount to participate. The bikers will travel throughout the county, and the event raises funds for the American Cancer Society.

• The Friends of the Library book sale continues from 9 a.m. to noon at the public library in Albert Lea.

• Community members are invited to Project Green Touch, an event that helps to clean up Myre-Big Island State Park. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon, and a lunch will be served. No parking sticker is needed for volunteers. Call Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services at 373-6421 for more information.

• Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea will host a Mother’s Day tea and a vendor show from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. All proceeds go toward purchasing a new bus.

• A demolition derby hosted by the Crossroads of Destruction will begin at 1 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Cost is $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets for children at $5 for ages 5 to 10 and free for children under age 5. Several food vendors will be at the event.

• A Pheasants Forever banquet will begin at 5 p.m. at Vern Eide Chevrolet.

• Dancing with the Freeborn-Mower Stars will begin at 7 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 for general admission or $20 for reserve seating. The event raises funds for the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Sunday

• The Alden American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, milk, juice and coffee. Cost is $5, and children under age 6 get in free.

• The Freeborn American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a beverage. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children under age 5. An open house for the new museum will also be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the school museum will also be open. The Freeborn 4-H Club will host a bake sale and red geranium sale during the breakfast at the Legion.

• Hy-Vee will host its second annual fitness walk starting at 2 p.m. at Brookside Education Center. Any donations given will go to the Freeborn County Relay for Life. The event is open to anyone who would like to participate. Prizes will be awarded to teams that raise the most money.
