Comedian will have 2 shows in Albert Lea

Get ready for some hearty laughs.
Scott Hansen, five-time Minnesota Comedian of the Year, will hold two comedy shows this weekend at Albert Lea’s Big Island Grill & Bar. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Hansen began a one-year retirement tour on Dec. 31. This year will be his final year of public performance of standup comedy. Hansen has made millions laugh with national TV appearances on HBO, Showtime, A&E and E!. He developed and created two pilots and a series for Comedy Central, including “Seriously Weird Magazine,” and “Access America,” starring nationally known actor Fred Willard.

Friday
• Scott Hansen hosts a comedy show at 7:30 p.m. at the Big Island Grill & Bar. Tickets are $20.
Saturday
• The Alden American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Cost is $4, and menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.
• A walk for Parkinson’s disease will start at 9 a.m. at Northbridge Mall in Albert Lea. Donations go toward research, education and respite care, among other purposes.
• Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is a chance for community members to meet staff from the obstetrician/gynecologist department.
• Joyce Matthies’ dance students will hold a recital at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
• A benefit for Robin VonHagen will be from 5 p.m. to midnight at the Albert Lea American Legion. Family and friends are hosting the public benefit to help VonHagen with medical bills as she fights cancer. There will be a basket dinner, silent auction and bean bag tournament.
• Scott Hansen hosts a comedy show at 7:30 p.m. at the Big Island Grill & Bar. Tickets are $20.
• Local bands and acoustic acts will play at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center. Tickets are $5 and are available at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee and Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and Coffee House on Main in Austin.
Sunday
• The Masonic Lodge in Albert Lea will host an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes amaranth pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, milk and coffee. Donations go toward scholarships and local causes.
• The Land Between the Lakes Triathlon will begin at 9 a.m. at Albert Lea’s Edgewater Park. The event includes a quarter mile swim in Fountain Lake, a 14 mile bike ride and four mile run.
• A build-your-own omelette breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alden-Conger school cafeteria. The event supports Morin Lake Days. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children age 6 to 12 and free for children under age 5.
• First Lutheran Church in Glenville will host Ben & the Brians during the church service at 9 a.m. The event is open to the public.
• Youth for Christ will host an open house at The Rock from 1 to 3 p.m. for community members to see the building’s renovations. Coffee, cookies and tours are included.
• Albert Lea High School seniors will sing at a vocal recital at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Solo and ensembles will be performed, and the event is free and open to the public.
