Editorial: Health care delay shows disconnect

Last week, the Barack Obama administration announced one of the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, would be delayed by a year.
The move to postpone the requirements of businesses to provide health insurance coverage for employees or be forced to pay a penalty brings up even more questions.
Is Obamacare coming unglued or is it merely conveniently being delayed to put the matter just past next year’s mid-term elections?
Does the delay in the mandate on businesses also put the individual mandate in jeopardy? It would seem so.
How can the government enforce the requirement of individuals to obtain insurance coverage if they’ve just removed the requirement for businesses?
Such uncertainty and rapidly changing rules indicate that the folks in Washington clearly don’t have a clue how their shenanigans affect businesses — nor do they apparently care, either.
Health care reform was a huge pull shoved down the throats of America’s health care industry and business owners and leaders.
At the time, proponents argued such massive reform was critical and as was the rapid deployment.
Now, as the distasteful realities of what this means both to American business as well as the American worker become apparent, we see Washington’s leaders doing what they do best — backpedaling.
America’s economy can flourish again, but the constantly changing rules and regulations slow improvement down significantly.
