Investigators say foul play not suspected at Arrowhead Point
FREEBORN — After investigating an abandoned car, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies ultimately found its owner’s body in the water along the shoreline of Freeborn Lake early this morning.
The 64-year-old woman is dead, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release, and authorities have not yet released her name.
Authorities said there are no obvious signs of foul play and said the incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and state medical examiners.
Around 8:20 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office received a call of an abandoned car at Arrowhead Point County Park, at 65537 267th St. on the eastern side of Freeborn Lake. The passenger car reportedly had been parked most of the day.
Deputies did not find anyone near the car, the news release states. They made contact with the family of the registered owner, and the man said his wife had been missing since either Sunday night or early morning Monday.
The investigator called the Freeborn Fire Department and Austin Police Department’s K-9 unit for assistance in searching for the woman.
Around 1 a.m. today, the woman’s body was located in the water along the lake near where the car had been parked.
The news release did not say what make or model the car was.
The city of Freeborn is on the northern side of the 2,222-acre lake.
