FREEBORN — The body found in Freeborn Lake on Tuesday has been identified as Charlotte Elaine Holland.
Holland, 64, was a Hartland resident. Her official cause of death is drowning, according to Freeborn County Sheriff Bob Kindler. A state medical examiner announced the cause of death Wednesday afternoon.
Holland was found in the water along the shoreline of Freeborn Lake around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities were alerted to a deserted car, an early 1980s model Chevy Caprice, at Arrowhead Point County Park near the city of Freeborn around 8:20 p.m. Monday. Deputies did not find anyone near the car and made contact with her husband, Roger Holland, 66, in Hartland. He said he hadn’t seen his wife but didn’t call authorities because she could have left the night before or sometime before he woke up on Tuesday, which was not unusual for her.
The investigator called the Freeborn Fire Department and Austin Police Department’s K-9 unit for assistance in searching for the woman.
Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, the woman’s body was located in the water along the lake near where the car had been parked. Authorities said there were no obvious signs of foul play to be found.
Kindler said the investigation will be wrapping up now that the cause of death was found.
