Carol Hansen, 67, Oakland

Carol Kay (Strouf) Hansen, 67, of Oakland, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, after battling pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1946, in Albert Lea, to Alvin and Geraldine (Wolesky) Strouf. A 1964 Austin High School graduate, Carol married Harry T. Hansen on May 14, 1966, at First United Methodist Church in Austin.
She worked as a secretary for Judge Fred Vogel, as a bookkeeper at J.C. Penney, Len’s Wood Products and Ace Hardware. She also worked for many years as a waitress at the Steer Restaurant and was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. in the invoicing department. Her favorite job was as a bookkeeper for Trimble’s Cycle Center. Carol especially enjoyed volunteering at the Mower County Red Cross and the Paramount Theater.
Survivors include her husband, Harry T. Hansen of Oakland; daughter, Tamra Hansen of Austin; son, Scott (Elaine) Hansen of Austin; two granddaughters, Alex and Amber Hansen; brothers, Wayne (Fran) Strouf and Bruce (Nedra) Strouf, both of Oakland; sister-in-law, Vanna Rae (Peter) Nielsen of Austin; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Geraldine Strouf; and baby boy brother.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Bohemian National Cemetery in Myrtle.
