The Sioux Falls, S.D., Argus Leader is reporting this afternoon that the 2-year-old son of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson died after allegedly being assaulted by another man.

“Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, of Sioux Falls, is charged in Lincoln County with aggravated assault and aggravated battery on an infant,” the newspaper reported.

The Sioux Falls Police Department confirmed the boy’s death in a news release.
