From spooky tunes at the Lighthouse Event Center to Halloween parties all over the city to classic rock ’n’ roll at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center to a wine and beer tasting, there is something fun for everyone in Albert Lea this weekend. Read on for a guide to local events.

 

Friday

• Hollandale Christian School hosts its annual fall supper from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school. Donations will be accepted, and carry-out orders are available.

• The Fountain Warehouse Liquor holiday beer and wine tasting will begin at 6 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Cost is $20, and 100 percent of proceeds go to the United Way of Freeborn County. There will be hors d’oeuvres, local artists, more than 70 wines to sample and a silent auction.

• “Frankenstein” will be broadcast at 6 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center from the National Theatre in London, England. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students.

• The North Star Corn Maze will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight with its haunted Halloween maze. It is one mile north of Northwood on Highway 65 and located by turning west on 490th Street. Admission is $10.

• Local actors will treat audiences to a Touch of Broadway with music from “Wicked,” “Young Frankenstein” and other musicals at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center. Tickets are $15 and are available at Marshall Street Music, Stadheim Jewelers and Hy-Vee in Albert Lea or at Coffee House on Main in Austin. Partial proceeds go to the Bob Sturtz family.

• America’s Best Value Inn hosts a Halloween party starting at 9 p.m. Cost is $5. There will be $5 raffle tickets sold, and the grand prize is an iPad. The band Bad Monkey will perform. There will be a costume contest with first place winning $200, second place taking $100 and third taking $50.

 

Saturday

• Ascension Lutheran Church will hold its Time & Talent Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church on Highway 69 south of Albert Lea. Morning coffee will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be crafts, lefse and cookbooks for sale, among other items.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon at the Northbridge Mall parking lot.

• Local disc golfers will tape lights to their discs to play 40 holes of night golf at Tall Grass Disc Golf Course at Bancroft Bay Park. The event is called Discin’ in the Dark, and it starts at 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, worst score, best score, longest putt and other zany categories.

• Tailgaters Bar & Grill will have an end-of-harvest bash starting at 9 p.m. The event will feature The Johnny Holm Band in a heated tent outside the bar in downtown Glenville. There is a $10 cover charge.

• The DC Drifters are back at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, and this time they brought friends. Impersonators like Elvis, Neil Diamond, Tina Turner, Sonny and Cher and Marilyn Monroe will join the band in performing classic rock ’n’ roll tunes. The event is a fundraiser for the effort to add music to a monument in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper. Tickets to Saturday’s show are $15 and are available at the theater’s box office.

• Eddie’s Bar in Albert Lea will host a Halloween party. A costume contest, with judging at midnight, will offer a $75 first-place prize, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.

 

Sunday

• The Alden American Legion is hosting a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. Menu is pancakes, eggs, sausage, milk, coffee and juice. Cost is $2.50 for veterans and $5 for all others.
