Zumba and pink come together

Zumba dancers and their supporters will unite for a Party in Pink Zumbathon at the Albert Lea Armory this Saturday.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Funds raised go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight breast cancer.

There will be vendors, raffle prizes, a disc jockey, a photo booth and other features. A $50 donation or sponsorship will equal one ticket for a chance to win an iPad.

Friday

• The Albert Lea American Legion hosts a flea market fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event continues Saturday.

• Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea will have its 37th annual salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 918 Garfield Ave. Cost is $7. There will be hot barbecue sandwiches and a large selections of salads. The historic Grace Lutheran cookbook will also be for sale for $10.

• First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove celebrates 150 years this weekend. Friday’s activities include a hymn sing, fellowship and Danish refreshments.

• Albert Lea native and country music singer Jim Anthony will perform at 6 and 8 p.m. at the grand opening of Iron Skillet and Skol Tavern at Trail’s Travel Center. There will be food specials throughout the weekend as well.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon at the Northbridge Mall parking lot.

• The Albert Lea American Legion’s flea market fundraiser continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• To celebrate the construction at downtown Albert Lea there will be festivities all day. Starting at 10 a.m. will be the Color Dash, followed by pumpkin painting, children’s activities, swing dancing at 5 p.m. and a street dance starting at 8 p.m. featuring Chris Brooks & the Silver City Boys.

• The Albert Lea Art Center’s galleries will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Celebrate Albert Lea. It currently features the “Art & Faith” exhibit. There will also be face painting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $3 per face design. And finally there will be an art and flea market sidewalk sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• The Albert Lea Fire Department, at 221 E. Clark St., will have an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. as part of National Fire Safety Week. There will be demonstrations about kitchen fire safety, boat rescues and how the ladder truck works. The event is free and open to the public. People can meet firefighters, see equipment and have refreshments.

• The 150th anniversary celebration at the Clarks Grove First Baptist Church continues with a parade at 2:30 p.m., a cemetery walk, Danish refreshments and an evening meal at 6:15 p.m.

• The Alden American Legion hosts a steak fry form 5 to 8 p.m. Menu includes a 10-ounce ribeye, baked potato, coleslaw and garlic toast. Cost is $13.

• Albert Lea’s Knights of Columbus club will host a steak fry from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Menu includes steak, baked potato, vegetable, salad bar, coffee and dessert.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• Rockin’ the Lighthouse features local artists and bands starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center. Tickets are available for $5 at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee and Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and at Coffee House on Main in Austin.

 

Sunday

• The Albert Lea American Legion will have a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, fruit cup, potatoes and eggs.

• The 150th anniversary celebration at the Clarks Grove First Baptist Church continues with a 9:30 a.m. worship service. At 11:30 a.m. will be a harvest festival potluck dinner and chili cookoff.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” at 2 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• The Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra starts its 2013-14 season with a pops concert at 7 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets are available in advance at the Lighthouse Event Center and from orchestra members for $8 for adults and $6 for seniors. There is no charge for students in 12th grade or younger. At the door tickets will be $10.
