National Theatre Live to celebrate 50 years

The Marion Ross Performing Arts Center will host a high-definition broadcast performance of “50 Years on Stage” by National Theatre Live at 7 p.m. Friday. The box office opens at 6 p.m.
National Theatre Live is the National Theatre’s groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre live from the London stage to cinemas around the world. Albert Lea hosts “50 Years on Stage” as part of National Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebration.
A cast of 100 will perform live on stage in this once-in-a-lifetime event, directed by the National Theatre’s current Director Nicholas Hytner, including award-winning actors.
Covering iconic productions from “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” to “The History Boys,” from “Antony and Cleopatra” to “Angels in America,” from “Guys and Dolls” to “London Road,” this will be an evening of live performance and rare glimpses from the archives, according to a news release.
Friday
• The Albert Lea Eagles Club will put on the Freeborn Area Cancer Auction. The event starts at 6 p.m. at TB3’s Bar & Grill in Freeborn. Entertainment will be provided by Rich Honstad and the Sound of Rahk. Food will be available all day. There will be a live auction with items up for grabs. Proceeds go to the Fifth District Eagles Cancer Telethon.
• The Albert Lea Moose Club will have a prime rib, steak, chicken, shrimp and an all-you-can-eat fish fry. Cost is $10. Megaforce Karaoke will start at 7 p.m.
• National Theater Live presents “50 Years on Stage” a broadcast performance at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Showtime is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students.
• Santa will be at the Northbridge Mall at 11 a.m.
Saturday
• The Freeborn Area Cancer Auction continues at 1 p.m. at TB3’s Bar & Grill in Freeborn.
• The Walters volunteer firefighters will host their annual oyster stew and chili feed from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Walters Fire Hall. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Oyster stew, chili, bread cheese, homemade bars and beverages will be served.
• There will be KB Karaoke at the Albert Lea Moose Club at 7 p.m.
Sunday
• There will be a breakfast at the American Legion Hall in Alden from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Santa will be there from 10 a.m. until noon. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, milk, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $5 for adults and children 6 years old and under are free.
• The Albert Lea Eagles Club will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• The Albert Lea Art Center will host its annual Festival of Trees from noon to 5 p.m. at the Historic Petran House, 226 W. Fountain St.
Admission to the festival is $5 for adults and no charge for children. The event will run from Sunday until Dec. 29. Hours are Wednesday through Friday 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
• The Hospice tree-lighting ceremony will happen from 5 to 6 p.m. at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
• Simple Gifts with Billy McLaughlin will be at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church.
