While still in the service he married Wanda Bloomquist on July 4, 1953, at the University Baptist Church in Champaign, Ill., where they had met while both attending the University of Illinois. After finishing his time in the service they went to Minneapolis where Dale attended the University of Minnesota and obtained masters degrees in psychology and education in 1957. Dale then took a position as a science teacher in Albert Lea. After two years he became director of guidance and continued as a counselor at the senior high school until his retirement in 1991. He was also the assistant swimming coach for 15 years, adding this activity when his sons participated on the school swimming team.

Dale and Wanda were blessed with three sons David, Carl and Glen. Dale was a very present father who took every opportunity to be an active part of their lives from infancy through adulthood. He was so proud of the men they became, and the eventual eight grandchildren were very, very special to him.

Dale was a very active member of First Baptist Church for 56 years. He served many positions on various boards and committees, participated in bible studies and mission trips, taught numerous classes and, always having had a special interest in music, enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of Daybreakers Kiwanis Club, served as an election judge, chaired the county Mental Health Board for many years and delivered for Meals on the Go. Dale and Wanda loved to travel which began when their boys were young. Much of their time was spent camping in national parks in the West and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. He and Wanda eventually visited all 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico, Honduras and Europe. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends in July 2013.

He is survived by wife Wanda; sons David (special friend Tina) of Boise, Idaho, and his children Michael of San Francisco, Calif., Kelsea of Tucson, Ariz., and Eden of Boise; Carl (Lynn) and children Carter, Ellie and Garrett of Willmar; and Glen (Kristin) and their children Megan and Ben of Shoreview. Also surviving is brother, Robert (June), of Barrington, Ill.; and three nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline, when he was young, father, Benjamin, stepmother Lillian and sister Genevieve.
