Frieda Sorensen, 101, Alden

Funeral services for Frieda Sorensen, 101, of Alden will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be at Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Frieda died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Frieda Minnie Sorensen was born on July 31, 1912, to George and Marie (Reim) Wichmann in Conger. Frieda was baptized and confirmed at Bear Lake Lutheran Church. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Conger. Frieda attended District 89 country school. On Jan. 16, 1940, Frieda was united in marriage to Edward Einer Sorensen at Bear Lake Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a member of Alden Homemakers Club. Frieda was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in Altar Guild, WELCA Women’s Bible Study and Busy Fingers. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, canning, bird watching, listening to Christian music and circle the word puzzles. Most of all Frieda enjoyed time spent with her family, especially keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. A highlight for her was her 100th and 101st birthday parties with family and friends.

Survivors include her children Donald Sorensen, Dean (Myrna) Sorensen, Dorothy (Bob) Johnson, David (JoAnn) Sorensen and Darlene Sorensen; grandchildren Karen (Peter) Clements, Jeanette (Larry) Martin, Joseph Sorensen, Matthew Sorensen, Shawn (Tonya) Sorensen, Dawn (Dale) Armstrong, Diane Sorensen, Christopher (Alison) Sorensen, Jennifer (Chad) Miller, Joshua Sorensen and Renae (Chris) Cizek; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Alma DeBoer; sisters-in-law Verle Wichmann, Muriel Gries and Laurene Farland; and many nieces and nephews.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Einer Sorensen; brothers August, Theodore, Harry, Albert and Walter; sisters Leona Newman and Viola Ladwig; several brothers and sisters-in-law; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Sorensen; and granddaughter-in-law, April Sorensen.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church’s 2013 remodeling fund or charity of choice.
