Eagles end Tigers’ winning streak

A one-goal loss snapped the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team’s longest winning streak of the season.
After winning five straight games — all against teams from the Big Nine Conference — the Tigers fell 3-2 Thursday at Rochester Lourdes.
About 3 minutes into the first period, the Eagles broke the ice with a goal by Tucker Chapman.
The Tigers responded with goals by Jack Pulley and Lucas Peterson to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
Rochester Lourdes tied the game 8 minutes into the second period and scored the go-ahead goal 4 1/2 minutes into the third.
Albert Lea kept Rochester Lourdes goalie Jack Burkel busy, but the Tigers were held scoreless in the final two periods, despite out-shooting the Eagles 27-15. With the first period included, Albert Lea out-shot Rochester Lourdes 47-21.
Tigers goalie Garrett Matz earned 18 saves. Alex Claassen and Kohl Kriewall had one assist each.
Both teams had three penalties for 6 minutes.
Albert Lea (11-8-1 overall, 8-4 Big Nine Conference) plays next at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Rochester Century. The Tigers beat the Panthers 5-2 on Jan. 28 at Albert Lea City Arena.
