Travel remains difficult; I-35 remains closed

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials kept southbound Interstate 35 closed from Owatonna to Albert Lea. The latest closure notice came at about 5:15 p.m.
MnDOT advised no unnecessary travel because of compacted snow and ice on the roads. Slippery roadways were sending vehicles into ditches. People should check Mn511.org before traveling.
Some roadways are down to a single lane because of drifting snow, while other are impassible. Minnesota Highway 30 from Blooming Prairie to New Richland was closed in both directions.
